There was a big drunk scene but that was the backpacker bars and the others were quite sedate. However moving into the quieter towns in the north (wangheri, sorry if the spelling is wrong) had all you could drink for $10 dollars and that involved standing in a queue and drinking for 3 hours. Great fun so I was told! The South Island was better, Queenstown and Wannaka. Simply followed the noise and drank til I dropped. I've heard of Cabo San Lucas, but not had the chance to visit there yet, only been to Mexico once during spring break when I studied in California. Maybe on my next trip to Mexico. @clawdia
