A Norwegian newspaper just had an article about the best cities in the world to party in, several other newspapers did as well. The list is taken from the Lonely Planet book “1000 ultimate experiences”. I’ve actually only been to one of these cities, Cape Town that is, and I agree that is a great city to party in. I was surprised reading through the list though, seeing cities like Baku inĀ AzerbaijanĀ on it, and Belgrade as number one. I never though of either of these cities as a great place to party. I have never been to these cities though, and maybe I should pay them a visit. Anyways, here is the list.
1. Belgrade, Serbia.
2. Montreal, Canada.
3. Buenos Aires, Argentina.
4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
5. Thessaloniki, Greece.
6. La Paz, Bolivia.
7. Cape Town, South Africa.
8. Baku, Azerbaijan.
9. Auckland, New Zealand.
10. Tel Aviv, Israel.

been to Baku 3 times working offshore on the riggs that BP and Statoil are producing from, and because of delays i’ve been in different disco’s and pubs around the city … can only say this place is very nice , the people in azerbadjan in general are a very generous people and easy to get to know
But prices can be a little stiff compared to other nations around that same area …. 2-3 Dollars for a bottle og beer is normal there
my theorie is that lonely planet have been paid by these cities to print this list.amsterdam and cabo san lucas[mexico] are my favourite-places.period.check it out!
@clawdia
Amsterdam is a great city for sure, been there several times. I’ve heard of Cabo San Lucas, but not had the chance to visit there yet, only been to Mexico once during spring break when I studied in California. Maybe on my next trip to Mexico.
@aage
That is a bit expensive for the area I guess yeah, still way cheaper than in Norway, so shouldn’t stop me from making a visit there. Is there anything interesting to do in Baku and the surrounding area during daytime?
Cant say Auckland was party central in New Zealand for me and I spent a while there. There was a big drunk scene but that was the backpacker bars and the others were quite sedate. However moving into the quieter towns in the north (wangheri, sorry if the spelling is wrong) had all you could drink for $10 dollars and that involved standing in a queue and drinking for 3 hours. Great fun so I was told!
The South Island was better, Queenstown and Wannaka. Simply followed the noise and drank til I dropped.
